Case Western Wins in Extras

The Alfred State baseball team rallied late in the game but Case Western defeated the Pioneers 4-3 in 10 innings in Lexington, SC on Monday afternoon.
 
The Pioneers got on the board first when Nick Serce (Irondequoit) hit a RBI double to right center to score Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalpin-Perth) who had led the inning off by drawing a walk. 
 
The Spartans tied the game in the 4th with a RBI single to left by Flynn Lenahan. They took a 3-1 lead in the 5th, when they took advantage of a pair of Pioneer errors to plate a pair of runs.
 
Josh Laurie (LeRoy) lifted a sac fly to left in the 8th and TJ Lucey (Fairport) lifted a sac fly to center in the 9th to tie the game.
 
The Spartans game winning rally in the 10th started with two outs. Jake Ryan singled to left and went to second when Benjamin Gorski reached on an error. Casey McConihe delivered the game winning hit when he singled to center.
 
Andrew Santobuono (Franklin/Unatego) pitched all 9.2 innings for the Pioneers. He allowed just one earned run on six singles. He struck out four and walked only one.
 
Serce was 2 for 4 with a RBI to lead the Alfred State offense that was held to just five hits on the day. 

The blue & gold take on Roger Williams tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they continue their spring break trip.
