#5 Women's Tennis Stays Perfect with a 9-0 Victory Over Grove City

Cornwall seals match with win at second singles

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked fifth nationally, hosted the Wolverines of Grove City College Friday afternoon and came away with a 9-0 decision. The win marked the Tartans third on the young season and keeps the Cardinal and Gray perfect at 3-0.

The Tartans first point of the match came when the tandem of sophomore Megan Qiang (Cleveland, Ohio / Hathaway Brown School) and freshman Farida Abdelmoneum (Portland, Ore. / K12 International Academy) won 8-0 at third doubles. Senior Alex Iordache (Princeton, N.J. / South Brunswick) and junior Ola Wojciak (Holmdel, N.J. / Holmdel) then won 8-2 at second doubles before the Tartans top tandem of junior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and sophomore Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory.

The Tartans continued their momentum heading into singles play winning all six points in straight sets. Zheng started the scoring with a 6-0, 6-2 win at number one proceeded by Cornwall's match clinching victory at the second spot winning by the scores of 6-0, 6-1.

Iordache won 6-0, 6-1 at third singles before Wojciak, Abdelmoneum and Qiang all won 6-0, 6-0 at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

The Tartans will be back on the courts Saturday, March 12, when they entertain Franciscan University.
