(FOX CHAPEL, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University softball team finished the last two games of its four-game series with Washington University in St. Louis on Sunday, April 21 at Shady Side Academy Senior School. WashU won the first game, 9-6, and the second game, 8-1. This puts the Tartans at 14-14 overall for the season and 8-8 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Bears are now 23-9 and 12-4.
Game 1
- Senior Kiera Boucher was 4-for-4 with three bunt singles to lead the Tartans' offense.
- Junior Faith Lawrence had two hits in three at bats with an RBI while sophomore Maya Goodwin and freshman Maddy Beall each had one hit and two RBIs.
- Goodwin and Lawrence each had a home run.
- WashU scored four runs in the first inning.
- In the bottom of the third, the Tartans scored three runs with Lawrence leading off the inning with a home run. After singles by junior Libby Eichberger and Boucher, Beall reached on a fielder's choice that scored Eichberger. Then Beall and Boucher pulled off a first-and-third double steal.
- WashU scored twice more in the fourth and fifth innings before adding a run in the seventh to lead 9-3.
- Boucher scored again in the seventh inning after reaching on a single and stealing second before Beall singled up the middle. Goodwin then hit a two-run home run to end the scoring.
Game 2
- The Tartans had five hits in the game with Boucher adding another hit to her day with two walks.
- Goodwin hit another home run.
- WashU scored six runs in the first inning and led 8-0 after the top of the fourth.
- Goodwin's home run came in the fourth inning and was the only run of the game for the Tartans.
Notes
- Boucher became the all-time career hits leader in program history, surpassing Megan Hu's (2019-2022) total of 116, and now has 119 hits for her career.
- With four stolen bases on the day, Boucher tied the career record of 52 stolen bases, held by Emily Song (2019-2022).
