#1 Women's Tennis Wins Ninth Straight; Dominates #3 Amherst, 8-1

The No.-1 ranked Emory University Women's Tennis team won its ninth straight match on Thursday afternoon, dominating No.-3 ranked Amherst College, 8-1, at Rollins College in Orlando, FL.

The Eagles got off to a strong start on Thursday, sweeping all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. At first doubles, sophomores Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Defne Olcay won their third straight with an 8-4 decision. At second doubles, senior Daniela Lopez and freshman Emma Cartledge won their team-leading 16th match, winning 8-3. And on court three, sophomore Stephanie Taylor and Christina Watson improved to 7-0 in the spring with an 8-2 victory.

In singles, Emory earned straight set wins in four of the five matches that went in favor of the Blue and Gold. At first singles, Gonzalez-Rico won her team-high 18th match as she posted the 6-0, 6-2 decision over Jackie Bukzin. Lopez and Olcay both recorded their seventh consecutive singles win as Lopez pulled through with a tough 6-3, 6-7 (5), 14-12 on court two and Olcay was a 6-4, 6-2 winner on court three. At fourth singles, freshman Lauren Yoon moved to 14-5 on the year with her 6-3, 7-5 victory and on court six, classmate Jessica Fatemi won her team-best 10th straight singles win, registering the 7-6 (12), 6-2 decision.

The Eagles wrap up their spring break trip tomorrow with another top-10 matchup as Emory faces No.-7 ranked Wesleyan College. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 AM EST at Rollins College.
