Women's Tennis Edge Salisbury 5-4; Fall at NYU

SALISBURY, MD - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 non-conference win over Salisbury University on the road Saturday. The women then fell 9-0 at New York University on Sunday

Salisbury Match

Sophomore Fariza Abdulloeva led the Lady Bishops with wins in singles and doubles on the afternoon while juniors Giulia Zanetti, Julianna Johnson and Talitha Rowan also pulled out important singles wins.

Abdulloeva teamed with freshman Kimia Rahmani to defeat their foes 8-4 at the second line while Zanetti and senior Nicole Halabi fell 8-7 at the top line of doubles. Salisbury also won the third line 8-6 to take a 2-1 lead.

After Abdulloeva's dominating 6-1, 6-1 win at the top line of singles, the Ladies would use wins from Zanetti at the second line 7-5, 6-3, Johnson at the 4th line 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 and Rowan at #5 singles 6-1, 6-2 to grab the insurmountable 5-2 lead. Halabi and junior Ana Aguilar would then drop tight three-setters at the third and 6th lines. Halabi fell 2-6, 6-3, 4-6 while Aguilar lost 7-5, 5-7, 3-10.

Wesleyan improves to 2-1 on the season while SU falls to 4-1.

New York University match

Abdulloeva battled the top ranked player in the nation from NYU at the top line and fell in a tough third set tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6, 7-10.  She and freshman Kimia Rahmani also battled tough against NYU's #2 doubles team falling 8-6.

Halabi also perfromed well at the third line of singles falling 2-6, 4-6. 

NYU improves to 3-0 while Wesleyan falls to 2-2. The Lady Bishops do not return to action again until March 19 when they host conference foe Meredith at 3:00 PM.
