The Emory University volleyball team continued its winning ways on Wednesday evening, posting a victory at home over Lee University. The Eagles captured their seventh straight match and boosted their overall record to 13-1 following a 3-0 triumph (25-12, 25-14, 25-12) over the Flames who fell to 6-7.
Emory put on a dominating effort, hitting a blistering .395 (36-6—76) while holding Lee to .000 (22-22—85), the 13th time this year it held an edge in that category. The Eagles closed out the evening with a 35-24 bulge in digs and an 8-5 edge in total blocks. Junior Leah Saunders paced all players with 10 successful attack attempts, hitting .316 in the process (10-4—19), and chipped in five digs and two block assists. Saunders now has six performances of double-figure kills this season. Senior Morgan McKnight blasted away for a hitting mark of .571 on the strength on eight terminations with no errors in 14 swings. Junior Finn Wilkins enjoyed a productive evening, totaling five kills and an attack percentage of .265 (5-0—8), while topping all players with five (2-3) total blocks. Senior Elyse Thompson chalked up a match-high 10 digs which boosted her career total to 1,478, just 33 from tying the school record of 1,511 held by Kate Bowman (2011-14).
Emory, ranked No. 1 in D-III, returns to action on Sunday (Oct. 6) when it hosts the University Athletic Association Round Robin II. The Eagles will tackle Washington University in a noon start, followed by a 2:00 pm bout vs. New York University.
