CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Averett University women's soccer team dropped its season opener 7-0 to Emory University on Thursday night at the Orthosports Academy Stadium.
Emory (1-0) gained a 2-0 lead by halftime after scoring a quick goal less than three minutes into play and later nailed another at the 15:22 mark. Averett (0-1) managed to successfully hold off for the rest of the half, but the Eagles came out in the second period to notch two consecutive goals.
The Cougars take the field again on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. in its home opener against Laurel University. This will be Averett's first game in the newly constructed Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
