#15 Emory Men's Soccer Ties Case Western Reserve, 2-2

The No. 15 ranked Emory University men's soccer team played to its second consecutive hard-fought double overtime tie against a University Athletic Association opponent, tying Case Western Reserve 2-2 Friday night at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

Emory now sits 6-1-4 overall with a 1-0-2 conference record while the Spartans stand 6-3-2 and 1-1-1 in UAA action.

The Eagles were first to find the back of the net on the evening as junior Alejandro Gomez put Emory in front in the 31st minute. Gomez dribbled past several defenders before finishing from straight on and 20 yards out for his second goal of the season.

CWRU evened the score when Seldon Magruder received a free kick from Brandon Kim at the 43:40 mark and headed it into the back of the net.

The Spartans claimed the lead as Alex Lippiatt scored the go-ahead goal in the 54th minute, dribbling down the left side of the field before he laced a shot from the top left corner of the box.

Senior Josh Berman found the equalizer seven minutes as he headed in a Gomez corner kick for his second goal of the season.

Neither team could find a golden goal in the extra sessions, despite combining for 11 shots in the final 20 minutes.

Senior goalkeeper Jack Hudson stopped five shots in the draw while his counterpart, Jackson Kallen, posted a season-high seven saves as he faced 22 Emory shots with nine being on frame.

Senior Max Mehlman and junior Matthew Tanzer led the Eagles with four shots each with Tanzer putting two attempts on goal.

Emory is back on the pitch Sunday afternoon with another UAA match against Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to kickoff at 1:30 PM, the Eagles will honor their 11-member senior class with a special on-field ceremony.
