Women's Soccer Comeback Comes Up Short, Falls to No. 2 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.)

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team fell to No. 2 nationally ranked Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University by a score of 2-1 on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW Leaders (4-3-1)

  • Freshman forward and Ohio Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week Kalyn Rich (Lynchburg/Lynchburg-Clay) scored her sixth goal of the year and only the second goal allowed by Carnegie Mellon this season
  • Junior Academic All-OAC goalkeeper Katie Scott (Lewis Center/Olentangy) had 5 saves on the day
  • Senior All-OAC forward Sydney Rice (North Royalton) recorded one assist

Carnegie Mellon Leaders (9-0)

  • Senior midfielder Caitlynn Owens and junior forward Maria Askounis were the scoring leaders with one goal each
  • Junior midfielder Alana Frederick and freshman midfielder Saveria Ulizzi each recorded one assist

First Half (CMU 1-0)

  • 9:34 – Owens scored off a Frederick free kick for a Tartan goal

Second Half (CMU 2-1)

  • 62:26 – Askounis found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Ulizzi
  • 73:30 – Rich put the Yellow Jackets on the board with an assist from Rice

The Yellow Jackets take the field again on Wednesday, September 27 when they host The College of Wooster for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
