#7 Tartans Place Third at ITA National Team Indoor Championship Defeating #5 Pomona-Pitzer

(NICHOLASVILLE, Ky.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team, ranked seventh nationally, placed third at the 2020 ITA National Team Indoor Championship after defeating fifth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer, 5-3, Sunday afternoon. This year's championship played at the Top Seed Tennis Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky and hosted by Centre College. The win moves the Tartans overall record to 10-2 while the Sagehen are now 4-2.

The Tartans entered singles play with a 2-1 advantage after picking up wins at the first and third spots. The tandem of senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) were victorious at first doubles, 8-6. The Tartans other point in doubles came when sophomore Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) and freshman Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) won 8-4.

Carnegie Mellon took points at third, fifth and sixth singles, winning by straight sets in each, to seal the victory. Zheny won 7-5, 6-3 in the third spot while sophomores Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and Victoria Chang (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) where victorious at fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Cornwall won 6-2, 6-2 and Chang won 6-3, 6-3.

The Tartans will be back on the courts Friday, March 6 when they play Cardinal Strich at 3:00 p.m. at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
