Conduah's OT Winner Lifts Emory Men's Soccer Past CNU in Top-25 Matchup

Conduah's OT Winner Lifts Emory Men's Soccer Past CNU in Top-25 Matchup

Greinerball marches on. A tough back-to-back weekend in Charlotte, NC concluded Sunday evening with the 25th-ranked Emory University men's soccer team pulling out its third straight 1-0 victory, defeating 15th-ranked Christopher Newport University in a battle of top-25 programs at the OrthoCarolina Sportsplex.

Junior Madison Conduah came through with the game-winner just over three minutes into the first overtime to give Emory its fourth win of the 2021 campaign (4-1-2). Classmate Alejandro Gomez dished it to Conduah on the left side, setting up the Oregon, WI native to finish to the far post for his first goal of the year.

The match was evenly contested with both teams totaling 10 shots apiece. The Captains were the early aggressors with seven shots across the first 45 minutes. However, senior Jack Hudson made four of his five saves to keep CNU off the scoreboard.

The Eagles had three shots on goal for the contest with senior Nate Sampson accounting for Emory's other scoring threat, rifling a shot directly on target in the 64th minute but was turned away by CNU's Cole Irvin.

Emory looks to keep the momentum going next Saturday, October 2, when University Athletic Association begins against 9th-ranked University of Chicago. Kickoff will follow the women's game at approximately 1:30 PM.
