Martens Drops Career-High 29 Points to Lead Eagles to Road Rout Over BSC

The No. 19 ranked Emory University men's basketball program picked up an impressive road win Tuesday night, defeating Birmingham-Southern College 99-70 in Birmingham, Alabama.

Junior Cale Martens dropped a career-best 29 points to go along with a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the Eagles to the 29-point rout. Martens was one of four Emory players to reach double figures while 12 of 13 Eagles scored on the evening. Freshman AJ Harris netted a season-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting in 23 minutes off the bench whereas juniors Albert Fallas and Logan Shanahan had 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Eagles came out on all cylinders, shooting 50% from the floor in the opening half, including 7-for-19 from deep, to lead 52-35 at the break. Martens equaled his career-high with 18 points across the game's first 20 minutes and pulled down seven rebounds.

Emory roared from the start, going on a 16-2 run after the Panthers scored the game's first basket. From there, the Eagles never saw the lead dwindle below double digits and led by as many as 21 points.

The second half was more of the same intensity from the visitors as Emory eventually grew its lead to 38 points at 88-50 – its largest of the game – with 8:49 remaining before allowing the reserve unit to get some run.

The Eagles finished the night at 52.1% from the field and 11-for-32 from three while limiting BSC to 34.3% shooting. Emory had 21 assists on 38 field goals led by sophomore Ben Pearce's six dimes and forced 16 turnovers compared to just 10 on the other side.

The Eagles will return from the Thanksgiving break on Sunday, November 26 as they close out their four-game road swing at Berry College. Tip off with the Vikings is set for 2:00 PM in Mount Berry, Georgia.
