Baseball Falls Tuesday Night at LaGrange, 7-4

The Emory University baseball team dropped a non-conference road tilt Tuesday night, falling to LaGrange College, 7-4, at Cleaveland Field in Williamson Stadium.

The Eagles slip to 4-4 following the defeat, having now lost three in a row. LC remains unbeaten to start the year, moving to 7-0 to match their best start to a season since 2003.

Emory struck first as freshman Jack Halloran connected for his first career home to give Emory a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. The Panthers responded with six unanswered to lead 6-1 after five innings, doing most of their damage against sophomore Tyler McLoughlin who lasted four innings, allowing five runs (ER) on five hits and striking out four.

The Eagles countered with a three-spot in the sixth, capitalizing on two walks and two errors to cut the deficit to 6-4. Two runs scored as Henry Pelinski delivered a single through the right side with the play aided by a fielding error in right field. Halloran tacked on another RBI as he plated Pelinski with a sac fly in the frame.

LaGrange added an insurance run in the seventh on a run-scoring triple which ended up being crucial as Emory mounted a rally in the ninth.

Two singles by Jonah Wronski and Ellis Schwartz followed by a walk to Robby Wacker loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth. Sophomore Steven Hunt stepped up to the plate acting as the go-ahead run but flied out to right for the final out of the contest.

The Eagles look to snap their current losing skid this weekend when Emory embarks a three-game road series at Huntingdon. Game one of the series is set to get underway Friday night with first pitch set for 7:00 PM EST.
