Wesleyan Tops Emory Women's Tennis in Top-5 Matchup

The Emory University women's tennis team dropped its second straight match of the weekend road trip to the northeast, falling to No. 5 Wesleyan University, 6-3, in Middletown, CT.

The Cardinals were winners in the first five matches played to completion Saturday afternoon as they improved to 14-0 on the year. With the defeat, the Eagles fall to 6-7 overall and will look to end the road swing on a positive note Sunday afternoon against Tufts University.

After falling behind 5-0, the Eagles were able to close out the match with wins in three of the remaining four singles matches. Sophomore Ana Cristina Perez was a straight set winner at the fifth spot, 7-6 (0), 7-5 before senior Christina Watson and freshman Eliza McPherron were winners in super tiebreakers: Watson on court three 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 and McPherron at the No. 1 position 6-4, 5-7, 10-4.

Sunday against the Jumbos marks the final regular season match before the UAA Championships next weekend in Orlando. First serve at Tufts is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
