The Emory University women's tennis team coasted to an opening round victory over Brandeis University at the ITA National Indoor Championships Friday morning in Nicholasville, KY. The Eagles won the first eight decided matches en route to the 8-1 win over the Judges.

With the win, the Eagles advance to the semifinal round and will face the winner of Friday's MIT or Pomona-Pitzer match at 1:00 PM EST Saturday afternoon.

In doubles, Emory picked up shutout victories on both courts two and three before earning the sweep with a tiebreaker win at first doubles. Junior Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and sophomore Jessica Fatemi were 8-0 winners at second doubles with freshmen Katelyn Thomas and Alexa Goetz teaming for the 8-0 win on court three. At first doubles, junior Stephanie Taylor and sophomore Christina Watson pulled out the 8-7 (7) decision to give the Eagles a 3-0 edge heading into singles.

Five of the six singles matches were decided in straight sets with Emory dropping just six games total. Goetz was the first to earn a decision, posting the 6-1, 6-0 win at third singles before sophomore Emma Cartledge earned the clinching win at fifth singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win of her own.
