Emory Baseball Opens UAA Play with Win over CWRU

The Emory University baseball team returned to conference play for the first time since 2019 Friday afternoon, defeating Case Western Reserve by a 7-4 margin in the University Athletic Association opener at Chappell Park.

The Eagles scored six runs late including four runs in the sixth to down the Spartans in the first of four this weekend in Atlanta. Emory has now won three in a row to move to 14-8 while CWRU has dropped its last two to dip to 6-10.

Senior Robby Wacker and freshman Brok Liu combined to drive in five of the team's seven runs. Wacker was 2-for-4 with three RBI with both of his hits going for extra bases. He delivered a clutch game-tying double to get things started in the sixth before blasting a no doubt two-run shot in the seventh to put the game out of reach. For Liu, he went 2-for-2 with two RBI, two runs scored with two walks and walloped his first career home run in Emory's sixth frame.

On the mound, senior Kyle Sulkowski secured his third win of the season as he tossed 2.2 innings of relief. Sulkowski allowed a hit and a walk while punching out a pair in his scoreless outing.

The Eagles and Spartans continue their UAA series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at noon in Atlanta.
