Softball Drops Two at Brandeis

Waltham, Mass. - The Framingham State University softball team suffered a pair of losses today falling to Brandeis by scores of 3-2 and 6-5 in non-conference action at Marcus Field. 

THE BASICS: 

- Score: Brandeis 3, Framingham State 2 – Brandeis 6, Framingham State 5 

- Records: Framingham State (9-9), Brandeis (14-10)

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

Game 1: Brandeis 3, Framingham State 2 

  • In the opener, the Judges plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning taking the early lead. 

  • The Rams cut the deficit in half in the top of the third when Gwendolyn Carpenter delivered and RBI double to left. 

  • Brandeis countered with an Alex Cohen homer in the bottom of the inning pushing the lead back to two runs. 

  • The Rams capped the scoring in the game with a single run in the top of the sixth on a Mercedes Jimenez RBI single to center scoring Carpenter. 

  • Ally Moran took the loss in the circle for the Rams going six innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. 

  • Carpenter finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Camille Desrochers went 2-for-4 in the game.  

Game 2: Brandeis 6, Framingham State 5 

  • In game two, Brandeis once again grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. 

  • The Rams answered with three in the top of the third on a Carpenter three run home run taking their first lead of the game.  

  • The Rams added two more in the top of the fourth pushing the lead to 5-2. Grace Swanson plated a run with a single to center and Desrochers scored when Swanson was picked off first later in the inning. 

  • Brandeis got a run back in the bottom of the fifth and plated two in the sixth to secure the victory. 

  • Caroline Hughes took the loss in the circle going six innings allowing six runs, five earned, on 11 hits with three strikeouts and no walks..

The Rams are back in action on Thursday when they travel to UMass Boston at 3 p.m.
