Emory Baseball Falters in Series Finale to Case Western Reserve

Emory Baseball Falters in Series Finale to Case Western Reserve

The Emory University baseball faltered in the weekend finale to Case Western Reserve Sunday afternoon, falling by a 12-3 count at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

The Eagles drop to 1-3 in the UAA and 14-11 overall following the series while CWRU moves to 3-1 in conference action and 9-10 on the season.

Emory struck first, scoring twice in the second on RBI singles by sophomore Steven Hunt and freshman Josh Katz before the Spartans got a run back in the third prior to taking the lead in the fourth with a three runs in the inning.

Sophomore Walker Woolf delivered a run-scoring single, plating senior Robby Wacker to cut the CWRU lead to 4-3 in the fifth but that was close as the Eagles would make it as the Spartans broke open the game in the seventh. CWRU sent 13 batters to the inning including a string of eight consecutive men reaching base safely as they scored seven runs.

Sophomore Tyler McLoughlin took the loss on the mound despite pitching well in his five innings of work. McLoughlin allowed four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out a career-best nine batters. The nine strikeouts marked the most by any Eagle hurler so far this season.

Emory will look to rebound this upcoming weekend as the team ventures to the northeast to battle current conference leader NYU. First pitch of game one is set for 3:30 PM Friday afternoon at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn.
