Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Huntingdon

The Emory University baseball team split a Saturday afternoon doubleheader with Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL.

The Eagles snapped their three-game losing skid with a 7-6 win in game one before falling in game two, 11-0, in seven innings.

Emory now stands 5-5 through the first quarter of the season with the Hawks moving to 6-4 with the split. The series' rubber match is set for Sunday afternoon with a first pitch of 1:00 PM EST.

Game 1 – Emory 7, Huntingdon 6

Seven unanswered runs including five in the sixth inning helped the Eagles erase a 4-0 deficit to win the series opener.

Huntingdon put up a four spot in the third against starter Jack Moore with Daniel Patton provided the opening salvo with a two-run single to begin the scoring.

Emory got on the scoreboard with two in the fifth as the Eagles had three straight hits to lead off the frame. Senior Zeke Diamond singled home Jack Masonis and later in the inning, senior Robby Wacker brought Diamond home with a sac fly to right.

A five-run sixth put Emory in the lead for good with Wacker, Steven Hunt and Ellis Schwartz all collecting run-scoring singles in the inning.

Moore improved to 3-0 as he pitched into the sixth inning, allowing five runs on five hits while striking out four. Junior Aaron Mishoulam was outstanding in relief, spinning three innings of one-run ball and struck out five to earn his first save of the season.

Game 2 – Huntingdon 11, Emory 0 (7 innings)

Poor defense was the Eagles downfall in the second game as Emory committed six errors in the field. Emory mustered just three hits at the plate as they were shut out for the first time in 2022.

Senior Joey Bock took the loss as he gave up six runs on eight hits and five walks in 4.1 innings of work. He struck out two.

Huntingdon scored two in the first, second and fifth frames before busting the game open in the sixth, scoring five times thanks to the benefit of four Eagle errors in the inning.

Schwartz tallied two of the Emory hits, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base.
