Men’s Tennis Falls to WashU in ITA Indoor Consolation Semis Posted on February 22nd, 2020 by

SAINT PETER, Minn. – No. 20 Gustavus men’s tennis battled No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis in the ITA Indoor consolation semifinals on Saturday night, but fell by a score of 6-3. The Gusties will now take on Kenyon in the seventh place match at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Swanson Tennis Center.

Tonight was another great match,” Head Coach Tommy Valentini said.  “The guys set the tone very well in the doubles.  Yassine and Nick were excellent at #1, and despite not having their best stuff, Michael and Daniel competed very well and showed great energy.  The match at #3 to give us the 2-1 lead was a special one.  Xavier and Alex stuck to their gameplan, showed great poise, and handled the moment beautifully.  We have to tip the cap to Wash U.  for their singles performance.  I was proud of how well our guys stayed the course and stuck together.  We didn’t get the result we wanted tonight, but we made some very good progress in a lot of really important areas.  Tomorrow is another big challenge for us, and we look forward to bouncing back and bringing our best in another big match.”
