Women's Tennis Wraps Up Play at Elon Fall Invitational

The Emory University women's tennis team wrapped up its weekend at Elon University Sunday afternoon, going 6-4 in 10 singles matches as well as picking up a victory in doubles competition.

In singles, freshman Katelyn Thomas claimed the Oak draw crown as she defeated Mercer's Sarah Hyunh 6-4, 6-2 in the finals. Classmate Stephanie Shulman pushed Presbyterian's Katie Thompson to a third set in the finals of the Powell draw but ultimately fell 4-6, 6-3. 6-4.

The Eagles added consolation wins by junior Defne Olcay (7-6 (4), 6-2) in the Maroon draw, sophomore Jessica Fatemi (6-2, 6-2) and freshman Alexa Goetz (6-1, 6-4) in the Gold draw and junior Katie Chang (6-0, 6-2) and sophomore Lauren Yoon (6-2, 6-2) in the Phoenix draw to close out the final day of the invitational.

In the doubles competition, the Eagles tandem of Shulman and sophomore Emma Cartledge were declared winners of the Gold draw as Gardner Webb's team of Delsol/Limauge had to withdraw due to injury.

 Emory will be off next weekend before returning to the courts the final weekend of September with the ITA South Regionals from Sept. 28-30, hosted by Berry College in Rome, GA.
