Women’s Basketball Knocks Down 16 Threes in 84-49 Win Over Swarthmore

The Emory women's basketball team (3-1) kicked off the Emory Tip-Off Classic with a resounding 84-49 victory over the Swarthmore Garnet (0-2). The Eagles knocked down a season-high 16 three-pointers, with six different players knocking down at least two. 16 made three-pointers is the second-most in a single game in program history, behind 17 made in 2015 against Guilford. Leading the scoring for the Eagles was graduate student Claire Brock, who put up 18 points on 58.3% shooting.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead, taking a 24-7 lead into the second quarter after the Eagles knocked down several three-point shots. The Eagles made five threes in the first 10 minutes, with juniors Morgan Laudick and Daniella Aronsky each knocking down two and senior Izzy Munson tacking one on as well.  Laudick also pulled down an impressive five boards in the first period.

Swarthmore's offense got in a bit of a rhythm heading into the half, putting up 16 points in the second quarter. Yet, the Eagles carried a 45-23 lead into the half – a lead they would not surrender.

The Eagles ran away with the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Garnet 27-8, including a 13-0 run for the Eagles. Aronsky and Brock each knocked down two more threes in the third, effectively putting the game on ice.

The Garnet converted a few three-point plays to cut the lead in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late as the Eagles closed the game out with an 84-49 win.

Junior Erin Martin led Emory in rebounding, finishing with 10 total with three coming on the offensive end. The Eagles ultimately outrebounded the Garnet 46-26 while also winning the turnover battle, only surrendering the ball 13 times to the Swarthmore's 18.

The Eagles finished the game shooting 47% from the field and 38.1% from beyond the arc.

The Eagles will conclude the Emory Tip-Off Classic tomorrow against Berry. The game will tip-off at 2:00 PM in the Woodruff P.E. Center.
