In the rubber game of the weekend series between the Eagles and Huntingdon College, it was junior Christopher Stern who delivered the heroic base hit as the Emory University baseball team defeated the No.-17 ranked Hawks, 6-5, at Chappell Park in Atlanta, GA on Sunday afternoon.

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Stern ripped the walk-off single past the drawn in infield on the shortstop side, scoring sophomore Michael Edelman with the game clinching run. The win gave the Eagles the series victory and moved Emory three games over .500 at 14-11 on the season. The win also marked the team's seventh win in the past eight contests.

Junior Jack Moore and Huntingdon's Wallace Henry were entrenched in a pitcher's duel for the first seven innings. The Eagles struck first, scoring twice in the opening inning with RBIs by junior Richard Brereton and senior Bubby Terp. The score remained 2-0 until the top of the seventh when the Hawks pushed across their only run off Moore of the afternoon.

Moore was dealt the no decision after spinning seven frames of one-run ball. He allowed six hits and three walks and struck out five.

After cutting the lead to 2-1, Emory answered with a two spot in the home half of the seventh as junior Ryan Adelman came home on a wild pitch and later, freshman Zeke Diamond stole home as part of a double steal with sophomore Drew Bartholow.

Huntingdon once again cut it to within one with two runs in the eighth off freshman Joey Bock but the Eagles followed with a RBI single by sophomore Jack Rubenstein in the bottom of the inning. The Hawks scored twice more off Bock in the ninth as Will Cosby laced a two-run double down into the left field corner, scoring the game-tying run in Danny Coleman Jr. all the way from first on the play.

With the score tied at five, the Eagles responded again as the first two men of the inning reached base thanks to two big defensive errors by the Hawks. After a fly out by senior Eric Terry, Brereton walked to fill the bases, allowing Stern to come through with the walk-off hit.

Terp, Rubenstein and Adelman all collected two hits apiece to lead the offense while Diamond extended his team-leading hitting streak to 10 games with a 1-for-2 effort, reaching on a bunt single in the fifth. He added two runs, two walks and two stolen bases.

Emory returns to the field Tuesday afternoon with a date against crosstown foe Oglethorpe University in the final non-conference game to be played at Chappell Park in 2019. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
