LaGrange Defeats Emory Baseball, 1-0, in Extra-Inning Marathon

LaGrange College edged the Emory University Baseball team in an extra-inning marathon affair Wednesday night as the Panthers defeated the Eagles, 1-0, in 15 innings at Cleaveland Field in LaGrange, GA.

Junior James Robertson turned in his best outing of the season so far as he recorded a no-decision, scattering five hits and three walks over 7.2 scoreless innings and racking up a season-high nine strikeouts. Freshman Joey Bock added three scoreless in relief, allowing only two hits and striking out two.

Freshman Jack Brodsky was tagged with his first loss of the season as he worked 3.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits and five walks (three intentional). He struck out a career-high six batters. Brodsky stranded the game-winning run at third when he entered the game with two outs in the 11th and pulled off an impressive Houdini move in the 13th, escaping a bases-loaded and no outs situation.

The Woodcliff Lake, NJ native was again tasked with trying to pull off another magic trick in the 15th, allowing a leadoff double and later, intentionally loading the bases with only one out. Judd Moore spoiled it however, lining the walkoff hit over the outstretched reach of the leaping freshman Zeke Diamond at third to score Rhett Hollon with the game-winning run.

Emory, for the game, left 16 men on base including leaving the bases loaded to end the sixth and 13th innings. Senior Jackson Grayson was one of three Eagles to record two hits in the contest, going 2-for-3 with four walks including tying the school's single-game record of three intentional free passes. Diamond and junior Ryan Adelman each went 2-for-7 at the top of the Emory batting order.

The Eagles (6-6) return to Atlanta for a three-game weekend series against Middlebury Collee beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 PM EST.
