WSOC: Lasers fall in season opener at Brandeis

Waltham, Mass – The Lasell University women's soccer team opened the 2021 season against Brandeis University falling 6-0 at Gordon Field. The Lasers fall to 0-1 while Brandeis improves to 1-0-1.

Senior Angela Sanzari (North Haven, Conn.) made a career high 16 saves for the Lasers.

It took 27 minutes into the game before Brandeis got on the board when Senior Juliette Carreiro (Upton, Mass.) put it past the goalie off a ball over the top of the defense from sophomore Sydney Lenhart (Tuscon, Ariz.). 85 seconds later the Judges found the back of the net again when sophomore Yasla Ngoma (North Plainfield, N.J.) beat the keeper with her left foot. A third goal was added before halftime on an own goal following a corner kick.

Senior Makenna Hunt (Tyngsborough, Mass.) converted in the 57th minute on an assist from freshman Dominique Paglia (Westford, Mass.). Ngoma scored her second of the game, finishing Carreiro's cross from the left flank. Brandeis scored their final goal of the game in the 86th minute when freshman Charlotte Majer (Wrentham, Mass.) converted a rebound off Lenhart's shot.

The Lasers are back in action on Monday September 6th when they take on Babson College with a 1 p.m. kickoff. The Judges next contest is on Wednesday when they host Clark University at 7 p.m.
