Huntingdon takes Game 2 at Emory

ATLANTA  – The Huntingdon baseball team knocked off Emory University 7-5 on Saturday in the second game of a three-game series.

The Hawks won the first game 4-0 on Friday night. Game 3 is scheduled for 10 a.m. (Central) on Sunday, weather permitting.

The series win is Huntingdon's first against Emory since 2013.

Senior Taylor Fought was 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run in Saturday's win. Unofficially, Fought leads Division III with 68 hits this season. Texas Lutheran's Riley Schaefer is second with 66 hits and three players are tied for third with 65 hits.

Fought entered the weekend tied for second in Division III in hits and tied for fifth in RBIs. The official updated NCAA stat rankings will not be released until after Sunday's games.

Jud Owens, Wes Powell, Bradley Harris and Chris Fisher each had two hits against Emory. Owens was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, Powell was 2-for-2 with a run, Harris was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run and Fisher was 2-for-4.

Joseph Calvert finished with two RBIs and a run, Garrett Headley had one RBI and Corey Lowe scored one run.

A ground out by Calvert drove in Harris for the first run of the game in the second inning. In the third inning, a ground out by Owens drove in Powell and Fought scored on a single by Harris. Tied 3-3 in the fourth inning, Calvert scored on a double by Fought to put the Hawks in front for good.

Owens scored on an error in the seventh inning to make it 5-3. Huntingdon added its final two runs in the ninth inning when Calvert drew a bases-loaded walk to score Lowe and Owens scored on a sacrifice fly by Headley.

Sophomore Jacob Munn (1-0) earned his first collegiate win in four innings of relief. Sophomore Carden Mellown pitched the final two innings to get the save.

Coming Up: Huntingdon and Emory will wrap up the series on Sunday in Atlanta. Weather permitting, game time is set for 10 a.m. (Central).
