Women's Tennis Players Open Play at ITA Oracle Cup

(ROME, Ga.) - Four members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team opened play on Thursday at the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Oracle Cup being held at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

Play started on Thursday morning with sophomore Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla. / Circle Christian School) facing Katherine Fleischman of Wesleyan College. Taylor dropped the first set 6-4 and then trailed 5-3 in the second before winning four straight games to force a third set. In the third and deciding set, Taylor fell by be the score 6-2.

Taylor then played University Athletic Association (UAA) counterpart Karina Jensrud of New York University in the consolation quarterfinal match of singles play. The sophomore defeated Jensrud in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles play, Taylor teamed with senior Courtney Ollis (Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) and faced the tandem of Caitlyn Ferrante and Venia Yeung from Wesleyan. Taylor and Ollis lost 6-2, 6-4. The Tartans had a second doubles team compete on Thursday, as the duo of sophomore Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and freshman Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) fell 6-4, 6-2 to the pair of Kristina Yu and Sophie Henderson from Wesleyan.

Play resumes Friday at 9:00 a.m. with the singles consolation semifinal followed by the consolation quarterfinals and semifinals of doubles play.
