#14 Emory Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw at #9 WashU

The No. 14 ranked Emory University men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with No. 9 Washington University Sunday afternoon in St. Louis. MO.

The Eagles out possessed the Bears across the 110 minutes but could not find the go-ahead goal as they moved to 6-1-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the UAA. With the draw, WashU moved to 7-1-1 and 1-0-1 in UAA play.

Emory finished with a 19-8 advantage in shots and doubled up the Bears in shots on goal, 8-4. The Eagles had five chances in the extra periods while holding the Bears to without a shot attempt across the added 20 minutes.

Before the regulation horn sounded, senior Will Tichy had one of the better Emory chances of the second half as he flipped a shot towards the net but a diving save by WashU's Matt Martin kept the game scoreless in the 88th minute.

Martin came through with two more big stops for WashU in overtime, denying senior Josh Berman of overtime heroics. Berman first had a shot ticketed to the top shelf in the 91st minute before Martin tapped it over a crossbar. A minute later, Berman had a header on target following a corner kick by Martin made another strong diving save to preserve to draw. Berman put forth one more header off a corner late in the second overtime but his opportunity went just over the crossbar.

Martin finished with eight saves for the Bears with his counterpart senior Jack Hudson tallying four saves for his sixth shutout and fifth in the last six games. Hudson made a great save as he stopped Aidan Ashrafi's bullet through traffic in the 78th minute, one of the Bears' final scoring threats of the game.

Emory, currently riding a six-match unbeaten streak, returns home next weekend for a pair of UAA contests against Case Western Reserve (Oct. 15) and Carnegie Mellon (Oct. 17) at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.
