#20 women's tennis shuts out Colby, 5-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The nationally-ranked Brandeis tennis teams had little problem with visiting Colby College today, as the Judges defeated the Mules, 5-0, on both the women's and men's sides. The 20th-ranked Brandeis women improve to 4-4, while the 10th-ranked men move to 8-2.

Both teams opened with doubles sweeps.

For the women, the #1 team of senior Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and sophomore Lauren Bertsch (Middletown, R.I. / LaSalle Academy) opened with an 8-1 win. The #2 team of senior Keren Khromchenko (Manalapan, N.J. / Academy of Allied Health and Science) and junior Diana Dehterevich (Minsk, Belarus / Secondary School #185 of Minsk) were 8-5 winners, as were the #3 team of senior Sophia He (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) and rookie Ana Hatfield (Rockford, Ill. / Boylan Central Catholic). In singles action, the match was decided when Khromchenko won, 6-2, 6-3, at #3 singles, and Leavitt took a 6-1, 6-1, decision at #2.

For the men, rookies Jeffrey Chen (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) and Adam Tzeng (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle) continued their outstanding play at #2 doubles, blanking their Colby opponents, 8-0. Senior Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) and rookie Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc./James Madison Memorial) took an 8-3 decision at #3. The closest match of the day came at #1 doubles, where junior David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and sophomore Anupreeth Coramutla (Monroe Township, N.J./Phillips Andover) edged the Mule pairing of Scott Altmeyer and Sumukh Pathi in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (7-4). In singles action, Aizenberg defeated Altmeyer again, 7-5, 6-2, at #1. The clinching match came at #3, where Tzeng blitzed his opponent, 6-2, 6-2.

The Judges return home next Saturday, with the men facing #31 Swarthmore College at 10 a.m. and the women taking on Wheaton College at 2 p.m.
