FINAL AUGSBURG TUCSON INVITATIONAL GAMES STATISTICS

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Pitcher Samantha Anderson (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) set a new Augsburg University career record for strikeouts, and Jacquline Nichols (JR, Royalton, Minn./Royalton HS) tied a single-game school record with two home runs, as the Auggie softball team closed their trip to the Tucson Invitational Games with a pair of losses on Thursday.

THE BASICS
SCORES: Case Western Reserve (Ohio) 13, Augsburg 6; Hood (Md.) 3, Augsburg 2
LOCATION: Lincoln Park, Tucson, Ariz.
RECORD: Augsburg 7-7 overall

SCHOOL RECORDS
• With 11 strikeouts in 12.2 innings of work on the day, Anderson set a new Augsburg career record in the category with 257, breaking the old mark of 247, set by Rachael Ekholm (1999-2002). Her 61 shutouts this season are currently tops among MIAC players in overall statistics.
• Hitting a two-run homer and three-run homer in the loss to Case Western Reserve, Nichols tied a single-game school record with two home runs. She is now one of six players (nine times) who have accomplished the feat in school history, most recently by Allyson Ruedy in a 2013 game.

CASE WESTERN RESERVE GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Case Western Reserve took an early lead, but Augsburg cut the advantage to 4-3 after three innings, with a single run in the second and Nichols' two-run homer in the third. The Spartans scored six straight runs to lead 10-3 after five innings, but Augsburg cut the lead on Nichols' three-run homer in the sixth. Case Western Reserve pulled away again with a three-run seventh inning, and the Auggies couldn't respond in the bottom of the frame.
• Nell Gehkre (SO, Northfield, Minn./Northfield HS) hit a double and scored on a single by Taylor Mattice (SR, Woodbury, Minn./Centennial HS) in the second inning.
• Nichols added a double with her two home runs for a 3-for-4 day, driving in five runs. Mattice went 2-for-3, and Gehrke and Shannon Dale (SO, Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) had doubles.
• Anderson struck out three while walking two in a 6.1-inning effort, with Bella Kallas (FY, Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake HS) striking out one and allowing a hit in two-thirds of an inning.
• For Case Western Reserve, Nicole Doyle and Maren Waldner each had three hits, including two doubles each. Doyle drove in three runs and Waldner drove in two. Grace Tritchler had three RBI in the game, and Dussty Reynolds and Illissa Hamilton also had three hits each.

HOOD GAME HIGHLIGHTS
• Carly Dropik (JR, Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) and Morgan Malley (JR, Harmony, Minn./Fillmore Central HS) each hit solo home runs for the Auggies, Dropik to lead off the game and Malley in the third inning.
