Emory Baseball Runs Rampant in 7-3 Win at Berry

The Emory University baseball team ran wild on the base paths Wednesday night, taking down in-state rival Berry College, 7-3, at William R. Bowdoin Field in Mount Berry, GA.

The Eagles used 10 stolen bases, going 10-for-11 in theft attempts to improve to 3-1 on the season while the loss drops the Vikings to 4-3 overall. The 10 steals are tied for seventh all-time in a single game in program history.

Emory tallied 11 hits with all nine starters recording at least one base knock. Junior Jacob Singer went 2-for-4 and belted his first career home run. Classmate Caleb Shulman added two hits including a double with one RBI. Senior Richard Brereton and junior Michael Edelman each had one hit and two walks and combined for five of the team's stolen bases.

On the mound, sophomore Joey Bock was strong out of the pen, tossing five innings in relief of starter Jack Moore to secure his first win of 2020. Bock surrendered one run on three hits and two walks while striking out two. Freshman Aaron Mishoulam tossed a scoreless ninth inning to close out the win, striking out a batter in a perfect frame.

A four-run third inning featuring four stolen bases broke open a scoreless contest. Senior Ryan Adelman began the scoring with a single to plate Edelman. Brereton followed a double to right center to chase home Adelman before sophomore Zeke Diamond scored Brereton with a sac fly to right. Senior Jacob Greene rounded out the scoring with a single to right, scoring junior Jack Rubenstein.

After Berry cut it to 4-2 with runs in the third and fourth, Brereton accounted for Emory's fifth run with his legs in the fifth. After a lead off walk, Brereton stole second before stealing third. On the throw down to third, an arrant throw trickled into left field, allowing Brereton to scamper home. Shulman tacked on a run in the frame, plating Greene with a double to right center. Singer provided the final blow with a solo shot to left in the eighth.

The Eagles now begin a stretch of nine out of 10 games to be played at Chappell Park, beginning with a Saturday doubleheader against DePauw University. First pitch of the twin bill is scheduled for 11:00 AM.
