SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Two days after earning its highest national ranking since 2012, No. 21 Swarthmore men's tennis lost matches versus No. 20 Case Western Reserve University and No. 19 Kenyon College at Faulkner Courts on Saturday.
Match One: Swarthmore 3, Case Western Reserve 6
Swarthmore had a 2-1 lead after doubles. Seniors
Mark Fallati and
Josh Powell, ranked seventh in the Atlantic South Region, won 8-3 in the No. 1 spot. Freshmen
Thibault Vernier John Lanthrop teamed up for an 8-7 victory at No. 2 doubles.
Four of the six singles matches went to a third set, but only junior
Simon Vernier was successful in the third slot, winning, 6-3 4-6 6-2.
Match Two: Swarthmore 4, Kenyon 5
Once again, the Garnet took a 2-1 lead in doubles. The No. 1 duo of Fallati and Powell picked up an 8-4 win, and the No. 3 team of
Simon Vernier and senior
Blake Oetting won, 8-3.
Fallati and Powell were victorious in singles, winning, 6-4, 6-2, and 6-2, 7-4, respectively. Fallati was tabbed as the No. 5 singles player in the region on Thursday.
The Garnet have home matches versus McDaniel College and Gettysburg College on April 7 at 11 a.m and 3 p.m.
