Emory Baseball Routs Millsaps College, 18-1

The Emory University baseball team took advantage of defensive miscues and overall pitching ineffectiveness in a blow out, 18-1 victory over Millsaps College Saturday afternoon at Huntingdon's Five Points Deli & Grill Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama. The game was officially called after seven innings.

The Eagles produced 18 runs on 11 hits and were able to capitalize on eight walks and six hit-by-pitches from Major pitching. 11 different Eagles crossed home plate in the win. The six HBPs tied for the second most drawn by Emory team in a game in team history.

Freshman Jack Masonis and junior Jacob Singer combined for six RBI with the pair both going 2-for-3 at the plate and driving in three runs. Sophomore Zeke Diamond added two RBI with a 1-for-2 effort. Junior Michael Edelman scored a team-high three runs, swiped two bases and went 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Senior Richard Brereton improved to 2-0 on the mound with a strong five-inning outing. Brereton struck out seven of the 17 batters her faced, allowing a solo unearned run on three hits while not walking a batter.

Junior Henry Dimlow and sophomore Kyle Sulkowski each added scoreless appearances in their season debuts, retiring six of the eight batters they faced.

The Eagles saw most of their runs come around in the third and fourth innings as Emory scored 14 of its 18 runs during those two frames. A five-spot highlighted by a two-run double by Masonis helped the Eagles build a 6-0 lead after three before the floodgates opened in the fourth as Emory plated nine runs in the fourth thanks to two walks and four hit-by-pitches in the inning.

Emory will wrap up the Huntingdon Five Points Deli & Grill Tournament Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM EST against Lynchburg and the host Hawks.
