Baseball Falls in Sunday Rubber Match to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

The Emory University baseball team dropped the rubber match of the weekend series to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 13-3 in seven innings, Sunday afternoon at Chappell Park in Atlanta.

The Stags did all of their damage within the first four innings including a nine-run fourth to hand the Eagles their second loss in a row. CMS improves to 4-2 with the victory while Emory slips to 4-3.

Poor defense contributed to the offensive onslaught for the visitors as nine of the 13 runs surrendered by the Eagles were of the unearned variety.

CMS began the game with three straight singles leading to the game's first run. The Stags would go on to score twice more to lead 3-0 before Emory made a trip to the plate.

The Eagles answered with one in the home half of the first as sophomore Steven Hunt drove home Ellis Schwartz following back-to-back walks.

After Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tacked on one more in the third, Emory responded right back as Schwartz plated Zeke Diamond with a groundout after Diamond reached with a one-out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch.

The game slipped away from the Eagles in the fourth as CMS sent 13 batters to plate with nine of them coming around to score. Two errors in the frame accounted for six unearned runs while Julian Sanders, Jack Potter and Carson Bridges each had two-run singles as part of the large inning.

For Emory, senior Jack Brodsky dropped to 0-2 on the mound as he allowed nine runs (4 ER) on eight hits and four walks in 3.1 innings of work.

The Eagles look to halt their current two-game skid as they travel to LaGrange for a mid-week affair Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 6:00 PM.
