Three Bears Earn Baseball All-America Accolades

From Washington University Athletics

The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team had three individuals named to the American Baseball Writers Association (ABCA)/Rawlings and/or D3baseball.com's All-America Teams, as announced by the associations.

Senior pitchers Jared Fong and Ryan Loutos and junior second baseman Tim Van Kirk earned the honors.

Loutos is an ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com First Team selection after a tremendous season from the mound. His 116 strikeouts is not only the fourth-best in Division III, but the most in a single-season for the Bears, with the previous record of 106 set in 1983. Loutos also ranks second in victories (11) in the Division.

He ends his career ranked third in pitching leaders with a 1.84 ERA and strikeouts (287), fifth in shutouts (3) and 10th in innings pitched (230.0).

Fong earned ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com Second Team and D3baseball.com Third Team honors as a relief pitcher. He ended his season with the most saves in Division III (10), a single-season program record, and third in ERA (0.36) in 50 innings pitched.

Van Kirk was named D3baseball.com Honorable Mention Team as a second baseman. He is 15th in DIII in hits (69) and 22nd in stolen bases (23).

WashU advanced to the program's first World Series where they defeated Johns Hopkins and Adrian, but twice fell to St. Thomas (Minn.). Their 34 wins ties the season-high set in 2006, 2015 and 2019. The team's .974 fielding percentage is a new single season-record, previously set in 2017 with a .967.

The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 23. The ABCA National Pitchers of the Year for all divisions will be announced on Monday, June 28, followed by the ABCA National Position Players of the Year on Wednesday, June 30.
