Hiram College Athletic Director Todd W. Hibbs announced on Tuesday the appointment of Taylor Roth as the 18th head coach of the Hiram Terriers men's basketball program. Roth joins the Terriers from the University of Rochester in Monroe County, N.Y., where he served as the top assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets men's basketball program.

"Taylor Roth is the ideal candidate to lead our Hiram College men's basketball program," Hibbs said. "He has extensive experience in similar settings, always creating successful opportunities for student-athletes both on and off the court. He's helped lead programs to conference championships and NCAA tournament appearances and wins. We're excited about where he will take the Terriers."

During his two seasons as the University of Rochester, Roth helped the Yellow Jackets to a 37-15 record, including a 21-6 season in 2018-19 and an NCAA Division III Second-Round appearance. Under Roth's tutelage, the Yellow Jackets ranked as high as No. 12 in 2018-19 and finished 24th in the D3Hoops.com Top 25.

""It is truly an honor to be named the next head men's basketball coach at Hiram College," Roth said. "I would like to thank Todd Hibbs, Martha Schettler, and the entire search committee for entrusting me with this opportunity. From the very beginning of the process, it was abundantly clear how special the athletic department and campus community is. This is an incredibly exciting time to be joining Hiram College and I cannot wait to get started."

In 2018-19, the Yellow Jackets picked up seven wins against ranked opponents under Roth, finished first in the University Athletic Association (UAA) in scoring defense and earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches' (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award. Additionally, senior Ryan Clamage was named the UAA Player of the Year and a Third-Team All-American.

While in 2019-20, Roth helped coach a Rochester starting five that placed four student-athletes on the UAA all-conference team, while junior Ryan Algier was named a NABC Third-Team All-American.

Prior to joining the Yellow Jackets, Roth spent three seasons as the top assistant and interim head coach at New York University in New York, N.Y. Over his three seasons with the Violets, Roth helped NYU to a 21-6 season in 2015-16, as well as an NCAA Div. III Second-Round berth. That year, the Violets ranked as high as No. 7 in the D3Hoops Top 25, and Senior Evan Kupferberg was named the UAA Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American.

Additionally, Roth coached the UAA Freshman of the Year and a CoSIDA Academic All-American during his tenure at NYU, and saw senior Ross Udine finish his career as the program's all-time leader in assists.

Before joining the Violets, Roth spent two seasons as the top assistant coach at Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio. Roth helped the Beavers reach their first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Championship Game in program history in 2014-15, while junior Thayne Recker earned All-HCAC First-Team Honors, as well as Second-Team All-Region.

Additionally, the Beavers earned the NABC Team Academic Excellence award under Roth in 2014-15.

Previously, Roth also spent a season as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Alfred State University in Alfred, N.Y., working extensively on player and system development and helping the Pioneers to an 11-win improvement in 2012-13.

A graduate of Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio, Roth began his coach career at his alma mater, spending one season as an assistant coach with the Yellow Jackets. Roth has also directed and worked at numerous basketball camps across the country, including camps at Cornell, Dartmouth and Yale.

Roth played four seasons for the Yellow Jackets from 2007-11, serving as a team captain his senior year in 2010-11.

A native of Sandusky, Ohio, Roth earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Baldwin Wallace in May 2012, and his master's degree in business administration from Bluffton University in May 2015.
