The New York University men's fencing team won all three of its matches, including a win over top-ranked and host Columbia University, at the George Kolombatovich Memorial Meet on Wednesday.
The Violets won all three of their matches, defeating Columbia (16-11), Vassar College (18-9) and Sacred Heart University (26-1). They finished the dual-meet season with a 20-8 record.
The men were led in foil by Eric Zobel (Seattle, WA/Lakeside), who tallied seven wins and was perfect against Sacred Heart and Vassar.
Grant Williams (Atlanta, GA/The Galloway School), Jamie Ren (Hong Kong, Hong Kong/The Lawrenceville School (Lawrenceville, NJ)) and Zachary Schindler (Cambridge, MA/Buckingham Browne & Nichols) all had identical 5-1 sabre records, while Liam Carpenter (Bedford, MA/St. John's Prep) took six bouts in epee.
"This was a fantastic evening," said Head Coach Steve Mormando. "The team had outstanding performances and was able to take down the number-one team in the country (Columbia). It was an honor to be their coach tonight."
