Carnegie Mellon Places Eighth in 2019 Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational

The Carnegie Mellon University men's golf team finished play at the 2019 Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational on Tuesday, shooting a team score of six-over par 290. The Tartans finished in a tie for eighth out of 18 teams with a score of 864 (287-287-290), breaking the previous school record for the lowest 54-hole team score, which was 877 set in 2016. The three-day event took place at the par 71, 6,725-yard Raven Golf Club at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida.

After finishing in fifth place last year, Illinois Wesleyan University fired six-under par 278 to finish in first with a total of 15-under par 837 (284-275-278), nine strokes ahead of Huntingdon College (283-280-283) with their second consecutive runner-up finish. Rob Wuethrich of Illinois Wesleyan won the individual medalist honors, winning wire-to-wire with a total of 12-under par 201 (64-68-69) to win by three strokes.

One Tartan, junior Jason Li (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy), placed inside the top 5 on the individual leaderboard. Li carded two birdies today en route to a final round of even-par 71 and a total of seven-under par 206 (69-66-71). From this tournament alone, Li set new school records for lowest individual round (66), lowest 36-hole total for an individual (135), and now the lowest individual 54-hole total in the program's history.

Junior Jay Milch (Mount Kisco, N.Y./Fox Lane) and freshman Brian Li (Beijing, China/Blair Academy) continued their steady play, with Milch and Brian Li both settling with a three-over par 74 to finish with a total of 220 (70-76-74) and 221 (75-72-74), respectively.

Sophomore Joshua Lim (San Francisco, Calif./Lowell) fired an even-par round of 71 to finish at a total of 223 (73-79-71) and sophomore William Knauth (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) rounded out with a 76 to finish at 228 (79-73-76).
