Alex Singh, Jason Edmunds of Carnegie Mellon Named CoSIDA Academic All-District for Men’s Soccer

Carnegie Mellon University senior Alex Singh (Golden, Colo. / Lakewood) and junior Jason Edmunds (Libertyville, Ill. / Libertyville) were named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team, as announced by the association. Singh is the lone goalkeeper on the District 4 team, while Edmunds is one of five defenders. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 that is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Singh and Edmunds will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition.

Singh was the starting goalkeeper his junior campaign while earning five starts during the team's run to the NCAA second round in 2018. As a junior, he had a goals against average of 0.96 in 1,402 minutes played. In a shortened season this year, Singh collected 86 minutes in three games played while earning two victories and two shared shutouts.

Singh graduated with a 3.85 grade point average as a computer science major. He is a National Merit Scholar, earned a 4.0 in four semesters, and was a teaching assistant for Intro to Machine Learning. Singh also spent time as a research assistant in computational biology systems, was a software engineering intern at Uber in the summer of 2020 where he'll continue an assignment this summer before returning the CMU for his master's in machine learning.

Edmunds is a three-year starter at outside back for the Tartans and earned All-University Athletic Association Honorable Mention during his sophomore campaign. He was voted the team defensive player of the year as a sophomore and served as captain this year for the three games the team was able to play. Edmunds has started 28 of 35 games played and helped the defense record a 0.89 goals against average while scoring three goals and assisting on six.

In the classroom, Edmunds carries a 3.56 grade point average as an economics major. In 2019, he was a PHDC business analyst intern and Dietrich College summer intern. In 2020, Edmunds was a PHDC interim business analyst and a Dietrich Internship Grant Recipient. This summer, Edmunds will work at Idea Foundry as a business analyst intern.
