Tartans Place Fourth at UAA Championships

The Carnegie Mellon University men's swimming and diving team placed fourth at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships hosted by the University of Chicago when the event concluded Saturday evening.

One-meter diving started the evening with sophomore James Kyle (Austin, Texas / St. Stephen's Episcopal School) finishing fifth with a score of 473.75. Freshman Oskar Eisgruber (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) finished ninth with 409.97 points while freshman Matthew Wagner (Mason, Ohio / Wiliam Mason) was 10th with 408.85 points.

Freshman John McNab (Westport, Conn. / Staples) earned fourth place in the 1,650-yard freestyle when he touched in a season-best and NCAA B Cut time of 15:37.26. Three other Tartans achieved an NCAA B Cut time in the event with sophomore Richard Dauksher (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fossil Ridge) placing seventh in 15:51.06, junior Andrew Joyner (Holly Springs, N.C. / Tar Heel Springs Academy) placing 12th in 16:13.48 and sophomore Doug Johnson (Brea, Calif. / Brea Olinda) placing 13th in 16:15.18.

Junior Justin Britton (Falls Church, Va. / George Mason) earned All-UAA honors with a third-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 1:47.81 which is also an NCAA B Cut time.

Senior Sam Hawke (Malvern, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) placed eighth in the 100-yard freestyle in 46.19 while freshman Matthew Nagler (West Chicago, Ill. / St. Charles East) was 12th overall in 46.28 and freshman Erik Feldmann (Yakima, Wash. / West Valley) was 16th in 46.63.

The top Tartan in the 200-yard breaststroke was freshman Seaver Dahlgren (Mill Valley, Calif. / Branson) in 13th place in 2:05.55 while senior Connor Clayton (Simpsonville, S.C. / Mauldin) placed 15th in 2:08.09.

Two Tartans swam in the championship final of the 200-yard butterfly with both earning NCAA B Cut times. Sophomore Sean Ream (Canton, Ohio / Jackson) was fourth in 1:49.74 with sophomore Colin Daniel (Westfield, N.J. / Westfield) touching in 1:50.08.

The 400-yard freestyle relay of Britton, freshman Yousef Hassen (Redlands, Calif. / Redlands), Nagler and Hawke closed the meet with an All-UAA performance by finishing third in 3:00.93. The time is a season-best for the relay and a school record that has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
