Adam Hopson of Rochester Named First Team Academic All-District by CoSIDA

University of Rochester junior diver Adam Hopson has been elected First Team Academic All-District by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. He advances to the national ballot for consideration as an Academic All-American.
 
He was elected in District III which incorporates all of the senior colleges in Division III in New York State. It is the first CoSIDA honor for him. CoSIDA selects specific Academic All-America teams in the sports of football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, baseball, and softball. All other sports nominate for the at-large team (men and women separately).
 
Ten students were elected to the at-large team. The field includes five lacrosse players, two in ice hockey, two in tennis, and one in swimming & diving. Hopson is one of six honorees with a cumulative GPA at 3.90 or higher. There are eight seniors and two juniors.
 
Hopson (Ithaca, NY/Lansing) made his mark on the diving board. Between the 2019 (12) and 2020 (9) diving seasons, he finished third or higher on the diving board. He earned All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in 2021.
 
He finished ninth on the three-meter board at the University Athletic Association Championships in 2020. Of his nine top-three finishes, six were as the event runnerup.
 
Away from the board, he interned with the University of Rochester's Emergency Department at Strong Memorial Hospital focused on clinical research. He was a teaching assistant for two classes.  He was a Scholar All-American chosen by the CSCAA in 2020.
 
In the spring, he was named as a Provost's Circle Scholar with one of the highest cumulative GPAs among the junior class. He was an Urban Fellows intern. He was a counsellor for a camp that provides for children with cancer and he volunteered at a homeless shelter.
