Yellowjackets Put Together Road Win Over CWRU

A strong defensive performance led to a 58-54 win for the Rochester women's team over Case Western Reserve on Friday night at Horsburgh Gymnasium. 

With 1:11 remaining in the game, Julianna Okoniewski made a jump shot to give the Yellowjackets a 55-54 lead. She finished the game with a double-double that consisted of 16 points and 14 rebounds. 

Additional free throws from Tessa Ludwick in the closing seconds sealed the victory for UR. She also finished with a double-double on Sunday, totaling 11 points and season-high 12 boards. 

With the win, Rochester improved to a 11-12, 5,7 UAA record. They held CWRU (10-13, 5-7 UAA) to 21-of-70 (30%) from the field.

Ludwick got UR off to a quick start, as she scored five of the team's opening 10 points.  

Neither team managed to gain control in the first quarter, as Rochester led by a 10-9 margin. 

A quick 7-0 run by the Spartans in the second quarter forced the Yellowjackets to play from behind temporarily. Hannah Lindemuth played a major role in the first half, adding eight points and two rebounds. She ended the game with an additional two assists. 

By halftime, Rochester was holding onto a 26-21 lead.

The rebounding efforts of Shannon Loiseau were crucial for UR's victory, as she ended the game with five points and 10 rebounds, including one off a UR free throw miss in the final minute of the game.

UR led by as many as seven before entering the final quarter with a 40-35 advantage. 

As part of the win, the Yellowjackets finished 24-of-76 (31.6%) from the field, 4-of-19 (21.1%) from deep and 6-of-12 (50%) from the free throw line.
