Rochester Graduate Alexandra Leslie Named to D3hoops.com Team of the Decade

From University of Rochester Athletics

Alexandra Leslie, a dominant player for the University of Rochester, has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Decade for women's basketball. A total of 25 Division III players were named to the team – four teams of five players each plus another five as Honorable Mentions.

Leslie is one of two players named from the University Athletic Association (Lisa Murphy of Carnegie Mellon University is the other) and the only player selected from the East Region (New York State schools). She is a native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and an alumnus of Manheim Township High School.

She collected a multitude of honors from D3hoops.com. She was named the East Region Rookie of the Year in 2015, First Team All-Region in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and the East Region Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017. D3hoops.com named her as the National Rookie of the Year in 2015. She was named a First Team All-American by the website in 2016 and a Second Team All-American in 2017 and 2018. The National Rookie of the Year accolade identifies her as a member of the All-America Team in that year. Leslie is one of just two players named to the Team of the Decade who accumulated All-America honors in each of her four seasons.

During her career, she earned All-America honors from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in each of her four years – First Team as a junior and senior. She was named an All-American by DIII Women's News in each of her last three seasons.

In addition to the multitude of All-Region honors from a variety of institutions, Leslie was named First Team All-University Athletic Association four times, a first for Rochester in both men's and women's basketball. She was the UAA Rookie of the Year as in 2015 and its Player of the Year in 2016. Both of those were team firsts.

Rochester enjoyed outstanding success on the court in those four seasons. The Yellowjackets played in three straight NCAA tournaments, reaching the Elite 8 in her sophomore (2016) and senior (2018) seasons. As both a junior and senior, she was a finalist for The Josten's Trophy, a national honor for athletic prowess, academic achievement, and community service. She earned Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America in 2017 and 2018.

She finished her career second in scoring with 1,848 points, tied for second in rebounding (992), second in blocked shots (145), and minutes played (3,071). She is Rochester's career leader with 468 free throws made and in free throw percentage, hitting 84.2% from the line. Overall, she finished ranked in the top five in 12 statistical categories.

Away from the court, she was a member of the St. Sebastian Society, a campus organization for Christian athletes. During the academic year, she dedicated time to tutor 4th through 8th graders at Rochester City schools. She was named as a Lysle "Spike" Garnish Award winner as a senior in the fall of the 2017-18 year. The Garnish awards recognize the top 10 student-athletes in the senior class.

She graduated with a degree in business. She received Rochester's Merle Spurrier Award at the end-of-year athletic banquet. It goes to the senior who has made the most outstanding contribution to the women's intercollegiate athletic program through leadership, enthusiasm, and service.
