Big Fourth Quarter Pushes Rochester Past Clarkson

The University of Rochester women's basketball team used a big fourth quarter, outscoring Clarkson University by 13 points, leading to a 51-44 victory on Sunday afternoon at the Blue Cross Arena.
 
Rochester pushes its record to 3-1 with the win, while the Golden Knights fall to 3-3 on the season.
 
The Yellowjackets were led by Callie McCulley who had 13 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the year, and Hannah Lindemuth who finished with 12 points. Julianna Okoniewski added eight points and 15 boards while also swatting three shots.
 
Kelsey Stites chipped in eight points, four rebounds and four assists for the Yellowjackets, shooting 4-for-4 from the field. Abby Gress and Haley Dumiak each scored four points and Kat Jenks had two points.
 
For Clarkson, Mariah Benavides led the way with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, as the only Golden Knight player in double-figures. Emma Buonanno added eight points while Hannah Earl, Molly Stewart and Meredith James each scored five points.
 
Clarkson held a 36-30 edge, as neither team shot the ball well through the games opening 30 minutes.
 
After the Golden Knights pushed the lead to seven, its highest of the game with 8:18 remaining, following a James jumper, McCulley poured in seven straight points to pull Rochester even at 40-40.
 
The Golden Knights stopped the run with a basket, but the UR rattled off 11 straight points to put the game out of reach in the closing minutes. McCulley extended her streak to nine straight points with a layup, but then ceded to teammate Lindemuth who scored Rochester's next nine points to end the run.
 
Lindemuth got it done on the defensive end in the quarter as well, with three steals, leading to UR baskets on offense each time.
 
For the game, UR held a big edge on the glass, outrebounding the Golden Knights 54-40. Rochester ended the game at 33% shooting (21-64), while Clarkson was at 27% (17-63).
