NYU Finishes Second at Home Invitational

NYU Finishes Second at Home Invitational

From NYU Athletics

The New York University women's golf team hosted the NYU Fall Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, October 12-13, at the Forest Hill Field Club in Bloomfield, NJ.

The Violets entered Sunday's second round in second place after shooting 329 on Saturday. Though they improved to shoot 320 on Sunday, they still could not catch first-place Williams College, who finished at 637 overall, 12 strokes ahead of the hosts.

"We definitely played better today," said Head Coach Brad Johnson. "But, we just couldn't overcome the deficit we began with today."

Ashley Lung (Henderson, NV/Coronado) was NYU's low scorer over the two rounds, shooting 158 (79-79) and tying for third place.

Overall, nine teams and 54 golfers competed.

Camilla Chung (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatian College Prep) shot a team-low 77 on Sunday following an 84 on Saturday and moved up from 13th place into a sixth-place tie.

A pair of Violets, Navika Kuchakulla (Orlando, FL/Lake Highland Preparatory School) (82-83) and Arisa Kimura (Bethesda, MD/Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) (84-81) tied for 12th place.

Isabel Herrera (Wellington, FL/American Heritage School Boca/Delray) (playing as an individual) also posted a top-20 finish, tying for 16th place (81-88).

"Overall, we didn't play as well as we'd like during the fall season," Johnson explained. "But, we'll be ready for the spring."

The weekend competition ended the fall season for the defending NCAA National Champions. The Violets will come out swinging again in March when they travel to Palm Coast, FL, for the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championship.
