From Case Western Reserve University

Led by first-year Mitchell Arch and junior Brian Kent, the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team has earned the National Wrestling Coaches' Association (NWCA) Division III Scholar Team Award with the nation's highest grade point average.

With a team GPA of 3.817, CWRU has earned the award for the fourth straight season. This is the first time since 2017 that the Spartans have been ranked No. 1 in Division III.

Arch and Kent earned individual honors by surpassing the minimum GPA (3.2). On the competition side, wrestlers must have either been a NCAA qualifier with a winning record, finished as a regional place winner (top 8) with a winning record and appeared in at least half of a team's scheduled events, or won at least two-thirds of matches and appeared in at least half of a team's scheduled events.

A biomedical engineering major, Arch was 23-17 overall between 149 pounds and 157 pounds and earned an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Central Regional Championships. Kent, a chemical engineering major, was 29-13 overall on the season and finished fifth in the 197-pound weight class at Regionals.

The Spartans finished the 2019-20 season with six dual match victories, the most since Head Coach Danny Song took over the program prior to the 2015-16 season.

CWRU's wrestling program has had a long history of success both on the mat and in the classroom. Overall Case Western Reserve has produced 19 All-Americans, four NCAA National Champions and 44 NWCA Scholar All-Americans. The program has also ranked in the top-10 in the nation for team grade point average eight times with the No. 1 ranking in Division III in 2007, 2017 and 2020.
