Brian Kent Places Fifth as Spartans Conclude Season at NCAA Regional

Junior Brian Kent and first-year Mitchell Arch each placed in their respective weight classes as the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team wrapped up the 2019-20 campaign at the NCAA Central Regional Championships, hosted by Adrian College, on Saturday at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.

Kent opened the second day of the regionals against Wabash's Jack Heldt in the 197-pound bracket. Kent claimed an 8-5 decision victory over Heldt, but then fell to Adrian's Devon Pingel in the consolation semifinals. Kent ended his day with a medical forfeit victory over Olivet's Trevor Piggott in the fifth-place match. Overall, Kent gathered 11.0 team points and went 4-2 throughout the regional.

Arch advanced to the consolation quarterfinals of the 157-pound bracket after posting a 2-1 record during Friday's matches. However, Arch lost to Ohio Wesleyan's Bryce Wittman via decision in the consolation quarterfinals and then lost by fall to Mount Union's Michael McIntire in the seventh-place match. Arch totaled 8.5 team points and posted a 2-3 record throughout the regional, including two wins by fall.

Case Western Reserve concluded the second day of competition in 13th place in the team standings with 27.0 points.
