Three University of Chicago wrestlers were selected as All-Americans by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) on Tuesday.
Ben Sarasin garnered First Team All-American status at the 184-pound weight class. The Maroon sophomore accrued a 26-1 overall record on the season. He won four invitationals as well as the University Athletic Association (UAA) title at 184 pounds. Sarasin collected five technical falls and four pins on the season. At the 2019 NCAA Division III Championships, he earned All-American status by finishing seventh at 174 pounds.
Steve Bonsall was a Second Team All-American at 157 pounds. He concluded his senior year with a 31-8 record while placing in the top three at six different tournaments. Bonsall secured six pins and six technical falls during the season. He was previously a 2017 All-American at 157 pounds (eighth place). Over his four-year career, Bonsall posted a 102-30 record.
First-year Cole Fibranz earned Second Team All-American status at 285 pounds. The Maroon heavyweight tallied a 24-3 record in his debut season. He finished in the top three at three different invites, won a UAA weight class title and was named UAA Rookie of the Year. Fibranz pinned 11 opponents on the year.
