From Case Western Reserve University Athletics
Danny Song has announced his resignation as the Head Coach of the Case Western Reserve University wrestling program.
"I want to thank Danny Song for his exceptional work with the CWRU Wrestling program," said James C. Wyant Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education Amy Backus. "Throughout his tenure, the team continued to improve, cultivating a culture of good sportsmanship, academic and athletic excellence as well as community service. I wish Danny and his family all the best in his future endeavors."
Since taking over the program during the 2015-16 campaign, Song has overseen a steady rise in its success over the past six seasons. He and his staff were selected as the University Athletic Association Coaching Staff of the Year in 2019, after leading the squad to a second-place finish at the conference championships. Song helped to oversee the development of two UAA Rookie of the Year honorees and seven All-UAA First Team selections.
In addition to the team's success on the mat, Song helped lead a squad that ranked first in Division III in team grade point average by the National Wrestling Coaches Association in both 2017 and 2020. Eight of his wrestlers earned NWCA Division III Scholar All-America honors.
While at CWRU, Song was the founder of the Ohio Intercollegiate Open and was the Director of Beat the Streets Cleveland. He was also the Director of Men's and Women's Wrestling for USA-Ohio. Song also helped found and direct The Program, a leadership academy for CWRU athletes.
A national search will be conducted to find Song's replacement.
