Four Maroon Soccer Players Named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

From University of Chicago Athletics

Four University of Chicago soccer players were named to the 2020-21 Academic All-America® men's and women's soccer teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The senior tandem of Maddie DeVoe and Katie Jasminski were selected as First Team Academic All-Americans. During their collegiate careers, UChicago women's soccer won 81 percent of its contests and qualified for the NCAA postseason three-straight times. The 2017 squad finished as NCAA national runner-up.

DeVoe helped anchor a stingy defense that totaled 31 shutouts over her three seasons on the pitch. The versatile defender/midfielder played in 63 career games with 47 starts. She also contributed nine goals and five assists, which included four game-winning goals. DeVoe's impact was recognized in 2019 with First Team All-Region and Second Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA) accolades. She was also voted as a 2019 United Soccer Coaches (USC) Third Team Scholar All-American, and was a three-time honoree on the UAA All-Academic Team.

Jasminski starred at the forward position for the Maroon offense. She accumulated 16 goals and 18 assists over three years of competition, which included 63 games played and 39 starts. The 18 career assists rank 10th in women's soccer program history. Jasminski's 2019 season featured USC First Team All-Region and USC Second Team Scholar All-American awards. She was twice named to the All-UAA teams in her career (2018 and 2019) while also tabulating three UAA All-Academic recognitions.

UChicago men's soccer seniors Scott Lich (First Team) and Isaiah Holquist (Third Team) claimed CoSIDA Academic All-America status. As a pair of three-year starters, Lich and Holquist led one of the best defensive units in all of NCAA Division III. The Maroons shut out 33 opponents in their three years, won 83 percent of their games and claimed three UAA conference titles. They reached the NCAA Semifinals in both 2017 and 2018.

Lich and Holquist both started 56 times in 62 games played, with Lich at right back and Holquist at left back. UChicago did not allow a goal in conference play during the 2019 campaign en route to a perfect 7-0 record. The defense held opponents below a 0.77 goals against average all three of their seasons. Both players were three-time UAA All-Academic Team honorees.

Lich's standout 2019 season featured a plethora of awards, including D3socccer.com Third Team All-American, USC First Team All-Region and UAA Defensive Player of the Year. He collected three goals and seven assists in his career, with two All-UAA and two All-Region accolades.

Holquist was named USC Second Team All-Region and Second Team All-UAA in 2019. His career scoring line included two goals and four assists.

UChicago men's and women's soccer have now combined for nine CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
